Operated by the private sector, the trail is a ground-breaking and entirely unique cross-border event that combines the best walking experience in Kruger National Park with a full day traditional cultural celebration in remote south eastern Zimbabwe, part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area.
The private Makuleke Concession in Kruger National Park is one of the best areas to experience incredible biodiversity. Using one trails camp as your base, the day is spent walking through different habitats and along the tracks made by wild animals over the years. Walk the floodplains of the Limpopo and Luvuvhu Rivers, experience wide vistas where acacia woodland and riverine forests provide shade and time to reflect.
The one-day Shangane cultural festival, held in a different village every year in the Sengwe Communal Area, allows contestants to participate in a day filled with music, song and dance. Community leaders and local residents attend this annual festival. This ensures that local communities in all three countries receive tangible benefits from tourism development in the area.
